A supplemental major medical plan covers expenses not included at all under a basic plan. It also provides coverage for expenses that are in excess of the dollar maximums specified in the basic policy as well as those expenses no longer covered by the basic plan because the benefits have been exhausted. With a supplemental plan, major medical coverage is coordinated with various basic medical expense coverages, picking up where the basic plan leaves off.
